School-Based Focus

There are many factors for determining the best placement of each mentor. Primarily, placement is based on the needs of each school we serve. That includes the number of students in each cohort, the goals of the school and the type of curriculum that would most benefit the students.

Each school differs on those primary factors, so each mentor’s experience will differ depending on the assignment. In more traditional settings, each mentor may be assigned three to five students. With this type of assignment, each mentor would continue with the same group of students through the duration of programming. This scenario is important for developing healthy, trusted relationships.

In other projects, mentors may take more of a leadership role, helping develop curriculum, organizing guest speakers and presenting material to the students. Such roles may work with larger or smaller groups of students that may evolve over the semester.
