The Skanner News and MIKE Program share a commitment to informing the community about health equity and youth empowerment. MIKE is proud to be a part of The Skanner’s annual Martin Luther King Jr., Breakfast, as well as other events in concert with The Skanner Foundation, which encourages and supports educational opportunities for youth.

About The Skanner News:

The Skanner News produces a weekly newspaper and news website in Portland and Seattle. Established in 1975, the Skanner has served Portland with a local, regional and national focus. The Skanner continues to earn national attention and awards for its work. Publisher Bernie Foster has served two terms as president of the West Coast Black Publishers Association as is a member of the National Newspapers Publishers Association (NNPA). The Skanner hosted the NNPA’s annual convention for the first time in Portland in 2014. The Skanner’s nonprofit arm, The Skanner Foundation, promotes education through scholarships and training, awarded each year at the Skanner’s Martin Luther King Jr., Day Breakfast in January.
