About the Partnership:
As one of only 170 organizations nationwide, MIKE Program was recognized with a Community Innovation Grant award by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) through the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP) in 2011. The one-time initiative grant funds organizations which address objectives designated by HHS to reduce health disparities. The funding helped launch MIKE’s afterschool project for teens at Miller Education Center West in Hillsboro, guiding them toward healthier lifestyles while providing them an opportunity to earn high school credit toward graduation.
About Healthy People 2020:
Healthy People 2020 is a 10-year plan for improving the nation’s health through science-based benchmarks. HP2020 was launched in 2010 by the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP) under the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The broad agenda of the plan includes identifying the general health status, health disparities and determinants of health for all Americans in order to plan successful health interventions. The one-time Community Innovation Grant recognized community-based efforts which further health interventions.
