Volunteer Position: Photographer/Videographer

Title:

Photographer/Videographer

Goal/Purpose:

To photograph or videotape youth engaged in educational programs that have a vision of mentorship and youth empowerment. The pictures/video would be used to capture MIKE Program events and the creativity, active learning, excitement, and relationship building of the youth in classrooms, community events, demonstrations, lectures, etc.

Responsibilities:

  • Photograph/videotape the youth in their educational setting, capturing their learning and creativity
  • Photograph/videotape MIKE Program special events community activities of the youth
  • Build positive relationships with youth through photography/video
  • Mentor youth in learning how to use photography/video as an avenue for self-expression and to influence community members to build healthy behaviors
  • Work in partnership with the MIKE Program Board of Directors to submit pictures/video worthy of newsletters, posters, bulletins, community outreach materials, etc.

Time Committment:

0-4 hours/week as needed

Qualifications:

  • Is experienced in both traditional and digital photography and/or videotaping
  • Demonstrates good photography/video taping techniques as shown in pictures with good composition, lighting and image resolution
  • Is willing to use own photography/video taping equipment
  • Works well in a group setting
  • Relates well to youth of diverse cultures/ethnicity
  • Is accountable for actions
  • Welcomes challenging work in a new program
  • Needs little supervision in accomplishing projects
  • Can make a personal commitment of time (0-4 hours/week)
  • Ability to apply and appreciative of support and guidance in working with diverse youth from disadvantaged socio-economic conditions consistent with the MIKE Program goals
  • Willing to take and able to pass criminal background checks

Work Location:

The educational facility of the youth programs, community settings, and your home/photo lab.
