Summary of Position:
The Volunteer Coordinator will develop volunteer position descriptions, recruit, screen, monitor, place, support and celebrate success of volunteers including and especially in the integrative aspects of youth programming and community building.
Essential Responsibilities:
1. Develop volunteer job descriptions in collaboration with supervisor and other volunteers,
2. Recruit Volunteers via internet list serves, website, and social marketing, word-of-mouth, and speaking presentations,
3. Research, community interest for outreach opportunities,
4. Plan and implement outreach opportunities,
5. Develop a speakers’ bureau: develop, coordinate and implement training for volunteers, and coordinate outreach in conjunction with Marketing Committee,
6. Track youth and adult volunteer information, activities and participation in volunteer database,
7. Develop, coordinate, and supervise volunteer youth service activities in collaboration with supervisor,
8. Plan and implement effective, low-cost volunteer recognition,
9. Train and supervise volunteers in episodic jobs in collaboration with supervisor,
10. Complete general office duties related to position (mailing, filing, phone, calls, community fairs, and outreach activities that support community activities)—limited to 10%,
11. Complete and submit in a timely manner all OSSC/AmeriCorps required reports and time sheets,
12. Attend OSSC/AmeriCorps sponsored orientation, trainings, meetings, and disaster response.
Marginal Responsibilities:
1. Ability to lift 40 pounds,
2. Transport and manage youth project materials.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Independent, creative, self-motivated individual who enjoys working with diverse groups of people,
2. Experience and/or desire to work with teens and young adults,
3. Interest in recruiting and supporting volunteers,
4. Strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills,
5. Experience with web, social marketing tools,
6. Experience with common office computer applications,
7. Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings, weekends,
8. Valid drivers license, good driving record, and own transportation preferred but not essential,
9. A Bachelors degree is preferred.
Benefits for AmeriCorps Members:
Benefits for serving in AmeriCorps full-time are: $5,550 education award upon completion for future tuition or payment on qualified student loans (taxed), a living allowance of $12,100 for 11 months (before taxes), loan forbearance on qualified federal student loans, basic healthcare coverage and childcare assistance (if household income qualifies).
